Itinerary – Lake Titicaca Tour: Uros, Amantaní & Taquile Islands – 2 Days

Experience an authentic cultural tourism adventure on Lake Titicaca during this 2-day, 1-night tour, exploring the impressive Uros Floating Islands, the peaceful Amantaní Island, and the traditional Taquile Island. Day 1: Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Amantaní Island

The adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. with pickup from your hotel in the city of Puno. Afterwards, we will transfer to the main port to board our tourist boat and begin an unforgettable experience navigating the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.

Our first stop will be the impressive Uros Floating Islands, a unique destination in Peru and South America. These artificial islands are entirely built from totora reeds, a traditional aquatic plant from the lake. During the visit, you will learn how the Uro-Aymara families preserve their ancestral customs, traditional lifestyle, and ancient construction techniques passed down through generations.

The guide will provide a detailed explanation about the history, culture, and social organization of the Uros people while we enjoy beautiful landscapes surrounded by the blue waters of Lake Titicaca. The visit lasts approximately one hour.

Afterwards, we will continue our journey toward Amantaní Island, enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the Andean highlands during the navigation. Upon arrival at the Amantaní port, local families will warmly welcome us, followed by an approximately 30-minute walk to the family homes where we will stay overnight.

Once settled, we will enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with local island products. In the afternoon, you may optionally take a hike to one of Amantaní’s most important ceremonial centers, known as Pachatata, from where you can appreciate breathtaking views of Lake Titicaca and experience an atmosphere filled with ancestral energy.

In the evening, the local families organize a traditional celebration for visitors. The islanders provide traditional clothing to participate in this cultural activity and share music, dances, and local customs. Later, we will enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night in a cozy family home, living an authentic cultural tourism experience on Lake Titicaca.

Day 2: Amantaní Island – Taquile Island – Puno

At sunrise, we will enjoy a typical breakfast with the host family. Afterwards, we will head to the port to say goodbye to the local community and continue our journey to the famous Taquile Island.

The navigation lasts approximately one hour. Upon arrival at Taquile, we will begin a pleasant walk along paths surrounded by agricultural terraces, natural landscapes, and spectacular views of Lake Titicaca.

During the visit, we will explore the island’s main square, where you will have free time to browse local handicraft shops and admire the famous traditional textiles of Taquile, internationally recognized and declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

We will also visit a local family who will share part of their customs, traditions, and communal way of life with us. Taquile culture is distinguished by preserving its ancestral practices and by the quality of its handmade textiles created using techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Later, we will enjoy a typical lunch with stunning panoramic views of the lake. Finally, we will continue walking toward the island’s second port to board our boat back to the city of Puno.

The tour ends at approximately 3:30 p.m., concluding an unforgettable cultural and natural experience among the magical islands of Lake Titicaca.

Uros Floating Islands : The Uros Floating Islands are one of the most emblematic tourist attractions on Lake Titicaca. These incredible artificial islands are built entirely from totora reeds through a patient and complex weaving process that families constantly renew to prevent deterioration.

Currently, there are more than 80 islands inhabited by Uro-Aymara families who preserve their ancestral traditions, fishing techniques, and methods for building reed boats and homes. Visiting this place offers the opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating living cultures in Peru.

Amantaní Island : Amantaní Island is recognized for its tranquility, hospitality, and community-based tourism experiences. Its inhabitants mainly dedicate themselves to agriculture, textile weaving, and stonework. The island is composed of ten traditional communities that maintain a strong connection with their Andean customs.

Among its main attractions are the ceremonial centers of Pachatata and Pachamama, considered sacred places since pre-Hispanic times. In addition, its natural viewpoints offer spectacular panoramic views of Lake Titicaca.
